Tom Dezell has nearly 25 years of experience in the field of career development. Since 2001 he has worked for the Professional Outplacement Assistance Center (POAC) within the Maryland Division of Workforce Development. The only such program at a state level in the nation, POAC provides job acquisition services to unemployed professional, executive, technical, and managerial candidates. Their web site is www.dllr.state.md.us/poac/.
Tom earned his BS in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University and spent seven years as a caseworker in work-release facilities. After having discovered that job preparation was the most enjoyable aspect of his work in that field, he focused the rest of his career in this area. Tom also assisted welfare recipients and injured workers in job placement prior to working with the POAC clients. He brings the unique perspective of having aided job seekers ranging from convicted felons to C-level executives. In addressing the variety of challenges each population has faced in their job search, Tom has acquired a wealth of information on the most effective methods of job acquisition—along with some very interesting anecdotes. The varied backgrounds and experiences of each job seeker have validated how effective networking is essential to optimizing any job search.
